Your Thoughts?

Thoughts from today's practice session-
"When performing from memory, if you are thinking about individual notes, then you cannot give a polished musical experience to the listener -- because notes are part of the technical aspects of a performance. One must be thinking beyond notes into the soul of the music and the composer!"

What is the most vital element of music?
Question of the day-
What is the most important element of music? (taken from melody, harmony, rhythm, form, timbre, etc.)
I believe it to be rhythm due to the fact that rhythm keeps the music moving forward and is essential as a communication tool. There are also two types of rhythm--rhythm of form (how the musical line and shape unfolds) and rhythm of meter (the "nuts and bolts").
Discuss as you wish.

What's this blog all about?!
I want to use my blog as a place to network and ask questions about anything "piano related"--performing, teaching, thoughts about music in general, etc.
I am a huge fan of all the music of Beethoven and have created non-traditional piano recitals that are entitled "Encounters with Beethoven". My desire to to bring a new freshness to this age-old music and to bring the listeners to a very personal encounter with Beethoven, the man, composer, performer, spirit, intellect, etc.
Check out my website.
